Description
One of the most successful and popular performers of the 20th century, Barbara Striesand has achieved unparalleled success as a singer and a motion-picture actress, producer and director. After winning a talent contest as a teenager she had a succession of singing engagements and also appeared occasionally on television. In 1951, the Brooklyn, NY, native appeared in an off-Broadway production that only lasted one night. However her stirring performance led to a regular club appearance at a New York night club. The next year she landed a part in her first Broadway production, I Can Get It For You Wholesale. When the show closed after nine months, she received numerous offers from Broadway and television producers, nightclub managers, and record companies. Her first big television acclaim occurred as a result of her poignant portrayal of Fanny Brice in the Broadway production of Funny Girl. In 1968 she received an Academy Award for her film debut and portrayal of the same character.

Sriesand's other film included Hello Dolly (1969); On a Clear Day (1970); Up the Sandbox (1972); The Way We Were (1973); For Pete's Sake (1974); Funny Lady (1975); A Star is Born (1976); The Main Event (1979); All Night Long (1981); Yentl (1983);, in which she starred directed and produced; Nuts (1987); and The Prince of Tides (1991), which she also directed and co-produced.

Barbara Striesand's first album, The Barbara Stiesand Album, sold more than a million copies, as did some of her other albums and single recordings. In 1987 she was awarded a Grammy as the best female vocalist for The Broadway Album. She won two Emmy Awards in 1995 for her television special "Barbara Stiesand; The Concert". That same year she produced a widely acclaimed television moving, Serving In Silence.

While Stiesand received many awards and superlatives for her work, while on stage, screen and television and in recording sessions, she continues to speak out for and work on causes that she believes in. Barbara Steisand's journey from humble beginnings in Brooklyn to Hollywood and international stardom has been interesting to say the least.

Mike Coupe, the world famous pointillism artist, depicts a pensive, introspective and demure Barbara Stiesand. What is she thinking? What is she planning? Fans and admirers of her work will want to have this limited edition portrait of one of the most successful personalities of the 20th Century for their collections.
